Housing For Health

(opening soon)

“We need more professionals for our healthcare system and that means attracting people from across Canada and around the world to our province. Having available housing in places outside Halifax Regional Municipality is key to attracting much-needed staff and keeping them here.”

(Michelle Thompson, Minister of Health and Wellness.  (CBC website, July, 2023).

This fund is initiated in the interests of supporting rural community-driven initiatives in support of increased housing stock for healthcare personnel.

Rural communities are competing for not just doctors but medical professionals. Lab techs, nurses, nurse practitioners and doctors, just like urban areas. Though the beauty of these communities is undeniable, there are often mitigating factors that make relocating difficult for potential applicants. One of those factors is simply the availability of housing. The Housing For Health program is designed to make housing available to those medical practitioners looking to move into a rural community.

Individuals donate their property to the Rural Communities Foundation’s Housing For Health program and receive a tax receipt for the value of their property. This type of donation resonates throughout the community as medical practitioners are then able to find the housing they need and stay in the community and offer the medical services desperately needed.
