In the Spring of 2011, 50 grade nine students from Cole Harbour High and Auburn Drive High feeder schools spent three days exploring each other’s communities, learning what it’s like to go to high school, and making new friends. This video documents their experience.
Here’s a quote from one of the students interviewed in the video: “Global Tours help grade 9 students entering high school so they’re not so scared. When I first started high school, I didn’t know what to expect…didn’t know what was going on. This program is to help people ask questions and to get along.”
Global Tour 2011 was funded in part by the Rural Communities Foundation of Nova Scotia Rural Leadership Initiative Grant Program. Global Tours enable youth from neighbouring communities to get together, understand, and befriend each other. These important connections enrich their lives and dramatically improve the high school social environment.
